Correction X3.6 · Correction of A7-24: its two objections stand; its claim that A5-8 holds needs a new proof
proved correction
Correction. Corrects Objection 7.24 · Objection: the support-bound check passes; the \(E_6/F_4\) expectation and two table cells are stale.
The objections of Objection 7.24 to Dead end 5.9 and Summary 5.10 are correct and independent of the pair model; its first claim restates input (a) of Proposition 5.8 conditionally and never checks it, and (a) fails for the pair model in residue characteristic 2, so the claim survives only with the proofs of Proposition X3.2 and Theorem X3.4.
Correction X3.6.
Objection 7.24 should read:
- Proposition 5.8. Its statement holds for all three families over every \(F\) (Theorem X3.4(1)). Its proof is valid for the spheres and for alternating forms in every characteristic, and for the pair model only in odd residue characteristic: there input (a) holds (Proposition X3.3(iii)), but if \(1\le\operatorname{val}2<\infty\) the Cartan label of \(\tau(x)\) is \(\mu((\ell(x)-\operatorname{val}2)^+)\), not \(\mu(\ell(x))\), and if \(\operatorname{char}F=2\) there is no \(\tau\) (Proposition X3.3(i)). Theorem 5.4 proves the orbit classification and \(t^{\lambda(b)}x_0\in O_b\), not \(\tau\)-compatibility. For the pair model the support bound holds by the direct lattice argument Proposition X3.2. No step of the run uses the route through (a) for the pair model: Theorem 5.4, Audit 7.21 and the function cell of Summary 7.25 rest on the componentwise bound. The same-points paragraph of Proposition 5.8 is correctly labelled heuristic.
- (unchanged) The last sentence of Dead end 5.9 is contradicted by Theorem 6.6; the \(E_6/F_4\) cell of Summary 5.10 must read "fails under (A)“Under (A)”: assuming all of Sakellaridis's assumptions (A1)–(A5) for X at the given p-adic place, so that his Theorem 8.0.2 applies., \(p\)-adic; open over \(\mathbb F_q(\!(t)\!)\)".
- (unchanged) \(\mathrm{SL}_2/T\) fails for every \(q\) and every \(F\) (Proposition 1.2 item 4, Computation 2.8(c)), not only for \(q\) odd.
- (made precise) Otherwise the table of Summary 5.10 agrees, with the \(\mathrm{GL}_n/(\mathrm{GL}_p\times\mathrm{GL}_q)\) cell read as "holds over every \(F\) in the pair model; the involution model coincides with it iff the residue characteristic is odd, and for \(1\le\operatorname{val}2<\infty\) the involution base point does not generate (Proposition X3.5)". Theorem E is needed for no positive row and remains the only input for the negative rows \(E_6/F_4\) (\(p\)-adic, under (A)“Under (A)”: assuming all of Sakellaridis's assumptions (A1)–(A5) for X at the given p-adic place, so that his Theorem 8.0.2 applies.) and \(\mathrm{SL}_2^3\backslash\mathrm{Sp}_4^2\).
Severity: the error of Objection 7.24 is an unsupported endorsement of a proof route; no conclusion of the run that Objection 7.24 passes on changes.
- What is wrong in claim 1. Step 1 of Objection 7.24 says the support bound "needs (a) \(\tau(O_\mu)\subseteq Kt^\mu K\), which is true once \(K\backslash X(F)\leftrightarrow\Lambda_S^+\) with \(\tau(x_\mu)=t^\mu\)". The hypothesis is never checked for the pair model. Theorem 5.4 gives \(K\backslash X(F)\leftrightarrow\Lambda_S^+\) through the lattice label, and Proposition X3.3(ii) computes \(\tau(t^{\lambda(b)}x_0)\in Kt^{\mu((b-e)^+)}K\); for \(e\ge1\) and \(b\ne0\) this is not \(Kt^{\mu(b)}K\), so (a) fails. The comparison with Theorem 3.9 and step 1 of Proposition 1.4 does not transfer: both concern alternating forms, where (a) holds in every characteristic (Theorem X3.4, step 2).
- What is right in claim 1. The conclusion is true: Proposition X3.2 (pair model, every \(F\)), Theorem 5.3 step 3 (spheres), Theorem X3.4 steps 2–3 (alternating forms). The Cartan convolution bound (b) is correctly cited, and the transfer step is correct where (a) holds (Proposition X3.3(iv) makes it explicit for the pair model at \(e=0\): the bound is \(\lambda-w_0\lambda\), and no projection argument is needed).
- Claim 2 (re-checked by the second audit, not re-derived here). Theorem 6.6 (graded minor; main claim verified independently) shows under (A1)–(A5)Sakellaridis's standing assumptions for his Theorem 8.0.2 (the pages' Theorem E): (A1) a characteristic-0 field and a split group with simply connected derived group; (A2) an integral model of X with a smooth open Borel orbit and invariant measures; (A3a) rank-one models over O, (A3b) the Cartan decomposition, (A3c) Iwahori orbits (his Axioms 2.2.1, 2.4.1, 2.4.2); (A4) conditions on the spherical roots and colours; (A5) X homogeneous and affine with one open Borel orbit., \(p\)-adic \(F\), that \(r\) is not onto at \(3\omega_1^\vee\); the closing sentence of Dead end 5.9 predates it. This lies outside the pair-model family and is independent of (a).
- Claim 3, checked here. \(C_{K_{\mathrm{GL}}}=\mathbb C[T_1]\varphi_0\) freely (Proposition 1.2 item 2; Proposition X3.5, step 8). \(\mathcal H_{K_{\mathrm{SL}}}=\mathbb C[T_{\alpha^\vee}]\) with \(T_{\alpha^\vee}=T_1^2-(q+1)\) on \(C_{K_{\mathrm{GL}}}\) (Computation 2.8(c)), so \(\mathcal H_{K_{\mathrm{SL}}}\varphi_0=\mathbb C[T_1^2]\varphi_0\), a space of even polynomials in \(T_1\); \(\mathbf 1_1=(T_1-2)\varphi_0\) is not one. No hypothesis on \(q\) enters.
- Effect. Summary 7.25 carries claim 1 only as "the corrections carried over are cosmetic"; its \(\mathrm{GL}_n/(\mathrm{GL}_p\times\mathrm{GL}_q)\) cell rests on Theorem 5.4 and Audit 7.21, whose arguments use neither \(\tau\) nor input (a) (Theorem X3.4, step 5).
