Remark 8.12 · Exactly what the \(E_6/F_4\) argument assumes, and what would sharpen it

open audit: minor defect

Minor defect (second audit). (A3)(A3) Sakellaridis's three axioms over O, relabelled: (A3a) rank-one models over O (Axiom 2.2.1); (A3b) the Cartan decomposition (Axiom 2.4.1); (A3c) Iwahori orbits (Axiom 2.4.2). For E6/F4 all three hold in both characteristics (VI run). lists 'the dimension bookkeeping of Lemma 8.5 (\(K_N\)-quotients, ...)' as an assumption; that bookkeeping is wrong as written (Objection 7.28) and, after Objection 7.28, unnecessary: only proper base change for stalks remains. Otherwise the inventory is accurate for the sheaf theorem \(\Csat=\cC\). Scope: it lists Theorem 6.6 among the inputs and says 'Not assumed: Sakellaridis's (A1)–(A5)Sakellaridis's standing assumptions for his Theorem 8.0.2 (the pages' Theorem E): (A1) a characteristic-0 field and a split group with simply connected derived group; (A2) an integral model of X with a smooth open Borel orbit and invariant measures; (A3a) rank-one models over O, (A3b) the Cartan decomposition, (A3c) Iwahori orbits (his Axioms 2.2.1, 2.4.1, 2.4.2); (A4) conditions on the spherical roots and colours; (A5) X homogeneous and affine with one open Borel orbit.'. That is right for the sheaf theorem, but not for the divergence verdict of its parent Summary 8.10, which does depend on Sakellaridis's hypotheses.

An inventory of the inputs of the sheaf-level verdict: the base field and Chen–Yi's theory, the decomposition theorem with constant coefficients, and a finite-type model; then the cited results, what is deliberately not used, and three possible improvements.

Assumed (shared with Proposition III and the summand criterion):

Also used, as cited: Chen–Yi, Thm. 18 (closure order), Prop. 64 (codimension), \(\tau^{-1}(L^+G)=L^+X\) (proof of Lemma 40), and Cor. 14(ii) (support condition in the \(\delta\)-normalization); Proposition III, step 2 (support bound) and step 6 (covered labels); the summand criterion Lemma 4.5; Computation 6.4 and Theorem 6.6; the root data of the family page, re-verified by computation.

Not assumed: any IC stalk of \(\Gr^{\le\lambda}\) (the fibres avoid the singular locus), Verdier self-duality, the Albert-algebra model, [CN24], [CMNO22], Sakellaridis's (A1)–(A5)Sakellaridis's standing assumptions for his Theorem 8.0.2 (the pages' Theorem E): (A1) a characteristic-0 field and a split group with simply connected derived group; (A2) an integral model of X with a smooth open Borel orbit and invariant measures; (A3a) rank-one models over O, (A3b) the Cartan decomposition, (A3c) Iwahori orbits (his Axioms 2.2.1, 2.4.1, 2.4.2); (A4) conditions on the spherical roots and colours; (A5) X homogeneous and affine with one open Borel orbit., or any analogue.

What would sharpen the result:

  1. \(F_k=Q^7\) exactly (Conjecture 8.11), giving the full multiplicity space \(E_{\mu_k}=k^7\) in degrees \(-6,\dots,6\) and \(P_{(3k,0);(3k-1,2)}=1\).
  2. A direct proof of (E2) over \(\C\).
  3. The general statement \(V_\lambda\ast\IC_0\simeq\bigoplus_\nu\IC_\nu\otimes\Hom_{\check G_X}(V_\nu^X,V_\lambda|_{\check G_X})\), with the \(2\langle\rho_L,\cdot\rangle\)-grading, which would decide \(\Csat=\cC_K\) for every symmetric variety of splitting rank at once. For \(\mathrm{SL}_{2n}/\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}\) the same fibre method, with \(\lambda\) splitting the offending pair as \((1,0),(0,1)\), was being carried out in parallel.

Builds on

  • Summary 8.10 · Verdict for \(E_6/F_4\): \(\Csat=\cC_K\), and the claimed divergence from the function level

Built on by

  • Objection 7.31 · Objection to the mirror step and the verdict: generation holds, \(\sigma\) needs normalizing, and the divergence needs its hypotheses stated

Exactly what is assumed and what would upgrade the result

Assumed (shared with Prop. III / A4): (A1) base field \(\overline{\mathbb F}_q\), \(p\ne2\), Chen–Yi's ℓ-adic theory on the placid quotient; over \(\mathbb C\) one needs criterion.html open item 1 (A4's D5). (A2) decomposition of \(V_\lambda\ast\mathrm{IC}_0\) into shifted IC's with constant coefficients (Chen–Yi Prop. 70/Thm 93 proof + H3). (A3) the finite-type model: proper base change for the stalks, and the dimension bookkeeping of A8-5 (\(K_N\)-quotients, codimensions = differences of δ, Chen–Yi Thm 36/Prop 64/App. A.4). Also used as cited: Chen–Yi Thm 18 (closure order), Prop. 64 (codimension), Lemma 40's \(\tau^{-1}(L^+G)=L^+X\), Cor. 14(ii) (support condition in the δ-normalization), criterion.html Step 2 (support bound) and Step 6 (covered labels), A4-5 (F1), A6-4/A6-6 (F3), families/e6-f4.html (root data, re-verified by e6_fibre.py).

Not assumed: any IC stalk of \(\mathrm{Gr}^{\le\lambda}\) (the fibres avoid the singular locus), Verdier self-duality, the Albert-algebra model, [CN24], [CMNO22], Sakellaridis's (A1)–(A5), or any analogue.

What would sharpen: (i) \(F_k=Q^7\) exactly (A8-11.1), giving the full multiplicity space \(E_{\mu_k}=k^7\) in degrees \(-6,\dots,6\) and \(P_{(3k,0);(3k-1,2)}=1\); (ii) a direct proof of (A2) over \(\mathbb C\); (iii) the general statement \(V_\lambda\ast\mathrm{IC}_0\simeq\bigoplus_\nu\mathrm{IC}_\nu\otimes\operatorname{Hom}_{\check G_X}(V_\nu^X,V_\lambda|_{\check G_X})\) with the \(2\langle\rho_L,\cdot\rangle\)-grading, which would decide \(\mathcal C^{\mathrm{Sat}}=\mathcal C\) for every splitting-rank symmetric variety at once (for \(\mathrm{SL}_{2n}/\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}\) the same fibre method with \(\lambda\) splitting the offending pair as \((1,0),(0,1)\) is being done by another agent).
