Audit 7.30 · Audit of the detection lemma and the summand theorem: both hold, independently of the normalization

proved audit: correct

Second audit: correct.

The detection lemma is checked step by step, including the support condition in Chen–Yi's normalization, and is shown to survive any uniform shift of normalization. The summand theorem then follows from the projective fibre of dimension at least seven.

Audit 7.30.

Lemma 8.7 holds and is normalization-free: with an unknown uniform offset in the normalization of the IC sheaves, the criterion becomes \(\dim F-\dim F'\ge\tfrac12\operatorname{codim}\), here \(7-0\ge4\). Theorem 8.8 holds: \(\IC_{\mu_k}\) is a retract of \(M_{\lambda_k}\), and \(E_{\mu_k,n}=H^{n+8}(F_k)\) for \(n\ge0\).

Detection lemma.

  1. Only \(\nu\in\{\mu,\mu'\}\) contribute at \(x_\mu\): by the closure order (Chen–Yi, Thm. 18), the support in \(\overline{\cO_{\mu'}}\), and the two-element interval.
  2. Support condition: Chen–Yi, Cor. 14(ii) gives \(\deg P_{\mu;\mu'}\le\tfrac12(\delta(\mu')-\delta(\mu)-1)\), hence \(H^i(\IC_{\mu'})|_{\cO_\mu}=0\) for \(i\ge-\delta(\mu)\), in the normalization \(\IC_\nu|_{\cO_\nu}=\underline k[\delta(\nu)]\). This matches the shift \(D_k=\delta(\mu_k')\) of Lemma 8.4: both are honest dimensions, with \(\delta(0)=0\) and \(\IC_0=\underline k\).
  3. Normalization check: if \(\IC_\nu|_{\cO_\nu}=\underline k[\delta(\nu)+c]\) for an unknown constant \(c\), the argument still closes. The stalk at \(x_{\mu'}\) is \(H^*(F')[D]\), so \(E_{\mu',n}\) vanishes except for a single \(n_0\); and the top class of \(H^*(F)[D]\) must come from a shifted copy of \(\IC_\mu\) as soon as \(\dim F-\dim F'\ge\tfrac12\operatorname{codim}\), here \(7-0\ge4\).
  4. Only summands \(\IC_{\mu'}[-n]\) with \(n>n_0\) could interfere, and Objection 7.28 shows there are none.

Summand theorem. \(F_k\) is projective of dimension \(\ge7\), so \(H^{2\dim F_k}(F_k)\ne0\). This class sits in a degree \(\ge-\delta(\mu_k)\) of the stalk, so \(E_{\mu_k,2\dim F_k-8}\ne0\) and \(\IC_{\mu_k}\) is a retract of \(M_{\lambda_k}\). The sharper identification \(E_{\mu_k,n}=H^{n+8}(F_k)\) for \(n\ge0\) uses Chen–Yi, Prop. 64 (which gives \(n_0=0\)), and holds.

Inputs. The decomposition theorem (A2)(A2) Integral model: X is a quasi-affine G-scheme over the integers whose open Borel orbit is smooth and surjective over them, with a G-eigenmeasure on X and a B-invariant measure on the open orbit. on the finite-type equivariant model (Sun, Thm. 1.2; Chen–Yi, Prop. 70), with constant coefficients by H3H3 · Constant coefficients: on each orbit the heart consists of finite sums of the constant sheaf., since \(Z_{G^\theta}(S)=\Spin_8\) is connected.

Outcome: holds. Severity: none.

A8-7/A8-8: detection lemma correct and normalization-free; IC of 3k omega_1 is a summand

A8-7 (holds).

A8-8 (holds). \(F_k\) is projective of dimension \(\ge7\), so \(H^{2\dim F_k}(F_k)\ne0\). This class sits in a degree \(\ge-\delta(\mu_k)\), so \(E_{\mu_k,2\dim F_k-8}\ne0\) and \(\mathrm{IC}_{\mu_k}\) is a retract of \(M_{\lambda_k}\). The sharper identification \(E_{\mu_k,n}=H^{n+8}(F_k)\) (\(n\ge0\)) uses Prop. 64 (\(n_0=0\)) and holds.

Inputs. The decomposition theorem (A2) on the finite-type equivariant model (Sun Thm 1.2 / Chen–Yi Prop. 70), with constant coefficients by H3 (\(Z_{G^\theta}(S)=\mathrm{Spin}_8\) is connected).

Outcome: holds. Severity: none.
