Summary 1.9 · Classification after the status audit, and the cells where a divergence can still hide

partial audit: error

Error. Classification and answer correct as of the inputs used. The 'blocked route' repeats the false claim of Proposition 1.2 that IC₀ is a direct summand of V_{(1,0)}∗IC₀ (the object is simple, Objection 7.15); it also calls the sheaf-level status of the odd constant-coefficient IC sheaves for SL₂/SO₂ open, although Lemma 2.6 and Proposition 2.7 had decided it (they are not in the Satake span, so the parity obstruction does have a sheaf-level form for SL₂/SO₂; only a parity grading of the GL₂ category fails). Stale cells, corrected by Objection 7.17: E₆/F₄ functions (fail under (A)“Under (A)”: assuming all of Sakellaridis's assumptions (A1)–(A5) for X at the given p-adic place, so that his Theorem 8.0.2 applies., Theorem 6.6), GLₙ/(GL_p×GL_q) functions over 𝔽_q((t)) (hold, Lemma 4.8), SL₂/SO₂ sheaves (fail over ℂ directly, Theorem 2.4). The conclusion still holds by another argument.
Corrected by: Objection 7.15 · Objection: the parity count of the \(\SL_2/T\) analysis holds, but '\(\IC_0\) is a summand of \(V_{(1,0)}\ast\IC_0\)' is false, Objection 7.17 · Objection: three cells of the status classification disagree with other results and must be updated, Summary 9.2 · Registry after the first audit round: the first-round results survive with their hypotheses, three cosmetic corrections, and \(E_6/F_4\) the only live cell.

Wherever both levels are decided they agree, including the two rows decided here (\(\SL_2/\SO_2\): both fail; \(\GL_4/\Sp_4\): both hold although H5H5 · Nonzero top splitting: for every orbit O_μ some Satake object V_λ ∗ IC_0 is supported on its closure with a nonzero split restriction to O_μ. fails). Lists, for each open cell, the exact statement that would decide it; a recorded 'blocked route' repeats a false summand claim.

Answer. Among the decided cells there is no divergence. One implication is proved in the only comparable setting (Theorem 1.6): over \(\F_q(\!(t)\!)\), with connected stabilizers, functions hold \(\Rightarrow\) sheaves hold; so "functions hold, sheaves fail" cannot occur there under H3H3 · Constant coefficients: on each orbit the heart consists of finite sums of the constant sheaf.. The reverse divergence "sheaves hold, functions fail" is not excluded in general.

Cells where a divergence can still hide, with the exact obligation.

  1. \(\GL_{2m}/\Sp_{2m}\), \(m\ge3\), and \(\SL_{2n}/\Sp_{2n}\), \(n\ge3\) (sheaves open, functions under (A)“Under (A)”: assuming all of Sakellaridis's assumptions (A1)–(A5) for X at the given p-adic place, so that his Theorem 8.0.2 applies. in characteristic \(0\)). To exclude "functions hold, sheaves fail": prove (SG) over \(\F_q(\!(t)\!)\) for one odd \(q\) — either by extending Theorem E and Proposition F to \(\operatorname{char}F=p\), or label by label by finding \(f_\mu\in\operatorname{span}\{T_\lambda:\varphi(\lambda)\ge\mu\}\) with \(f_\mu\ast\varphi_0\) vanishing on the orbits above \(\mu\) and not on \(\mathcal O_\mu\) (a finite lattice count, as in Proposition 1.4); then Theorem 1.6 gives the sheaf statement. To produce "sheaves fail": exhibit an uncovered \(\mu\) with \(\IC_\mu\) a summand of no \(V_\lambda\ast\IC_0\) (equivalently, by Lemma 1.5, \(\Csat\ne\mathcal C_K\)); by Theorem 1.6 this would also refute (SG) over \(\F_q(\!(t)\!)\), contradicting any characteristic-\(p\) extension of Proposition F.
  2. \(E_6/F_4\) (both open): (a) prove \(K\backslash X(F)\cong\Lambda_S^+\) through \(\tau\) for \(q\) odd (Sakellaridis's Axiom 2.4.1Sakellaridis's Axiom 2.4.1, relabelled (A3b): the Cartan decomposition of X(F) into K-orbits. for this \(X\)); (b) decide whether \(\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_{3k\omega_1^\vee}}\in\mathcal H_K\varphi_0\), \(k\) odd, by a cancellation among the \(T_\lambda\) with \(\varphi(\lambda)\ge3k\omega_1^\vee\). In the positive case Theorem 1.6 decides the sheaf statement; in the negative case decide whether \(\IC_{3k\omega_1^\vee}\) is a Satake summand (Lemma 1.5).
  3. \(\GL_n/(\GL_p\times\GL_q)\), \((p,q)\ne(1,1)\): sheaves hold; functions known only under (A)“Under (A)”: assuming all of Sakellaridis's assumptions (A1)–(A5) for X at the given p-adic place, so that his Theorem 8.0.2 applies. in characteristic \(0\). To exclude "sheaves hold, functions fail" over \(\F_q(\!(t)\!)\): prove \(K\backslash X(F)\cong\Lambda_S^+\) (pairs of complementary subspaces against a lattice) and apply Corollary C with the support bound of Proposition 1.4, step 1; coverage holds, so no cancellation is needed. Gap: the orbit classification over \(F\) is not on the pages.
  4. Spheres with \(q\) even, and \(\SL_2/\SO_2\) in residue characteristic \(2\): outside Chen–Yi's hypothesis \(p\ne2\); there is no ℓ-adic sheaf statement to compare.
  5. Betti against ℓ-adic: every sheaf verdict above is ℓ-adic; the Betti category of the pages inherits it through the comparison of decomposition multiplicities (open item 1). A divergence between the Betti and ℓ-adic statements would be a divergence inside the sheaf level, not between the levels.

Blocked route (recorded). The function-level parity obstruction for \(\SL_2/T\) (\(\C[y^2]\subsetneq\C[y]\)) does not lift to a sheaf-level obstruction, because thick spans contain retracts and \(\IC_0\) is a summand of the "odd" object \(V_{(1,0)}\ast\IC_0\) (Proposition 1.2, step 4). Whether the odd \(\IC_{(2j+1)\alpha^\vee}\) are Satake summands for \(\SL_2/\SO_2\) stays open; it would need Chen–Yi's relative Kostka–Foulkes multiplicities, or Chen–Nadler (2024), Cor. 13.8, with the Hecke action identified as restriction along \(\check G_X\to\check G\).

Answer to the question. Among the decided cells there is no divergence: wherever both levels are decided they agree, including the two cells decided here (\(\mathrm{SL}_2/\mathrm{SO}_2\): both fail; \(\mathrm{GL}_4/\mathrm{Sp}_4\): both hold, the first case with H5 failing and \(\mathcal C^{\mathrm{Sat}}=\mathcal C\)). One implication is now proved in the only comparable setting (A1-6): over \(\mathbb F_q(\!(t)\!)\), with connected stabilizers, FN ⟹ SH; so "FN holds, SH fails" cannot occur there under H3. The reverse divergence "SH holds, FN fails" is not excluded in general (A1-6 Remark (a)).

Cells where a divergence can still hide, with the exact obligation:

  1. \(\mathrm{GL}_{2m}/\mathrm{Sp}_{2m}\), \(m\ge3\) and \(\mathrm{SL}_{2n}/\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}\), \(n\ge3\) (SH open, FN under (A) in char 0). To exclude "FN holds, SH fails": prove (SG) over \(\mathbb F_q(\!(t)\!)\) for one odd \(q\) — either extend Theorem E/Prop F to \(\operatorname{char}F=p\), or, label by label, find \(f_\mu\in\operatorname{span}\{T_\lambda:\varphi(\lambda)\ge\mu\text{ in the component}\}\) with \(f_\mu\ast\varphi_0\) vanishing on the orbits above \(\mu\) and not on \(\mathcal O_\mu\) (a finite lattice count as in A1-4); then A1-6 gives SH. To produce "SH fails": exhibit an uncovered \(\mu\) with \(\mathrm{IC}_\mu\) a summand of no \(V_\lambda\ast\mathrm{IC}_0\) (equivalently, by A1-5, \(\mathcal C^{\mathrm{Sat}}\ne\mathcal C\)); by A1-6 this would also refute (SG) over \(\mathbb F_q(\!(t)\!)\), hence contradict a char-\(p\) extension of Prop F.
  2. \(E_6/F_4\) (both open): (a) prove \(K\backslash X(F)\cong\Lambda_S^+\) via \(\tau\) over \(F\) with \(q\) odd (Sakellaridis Axiom 2.4.1 for this \(X\)); (b) decide \(\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_{3k\omega_1^\vee}}\in\mathcal H_K\cdot\varphi_0\), \(k\) odd (cancellation among \(T_\lambda\) with \(\varphi(\lambda)\ge3k\omega_1^\vee\)); then A1-6 decides SH in the positive case; in the negative case decide whether \(\mathrm{IC}_{3k\omega_1^\vee}\) is a Satake summand (A1-5).
  3. \(\mathrm{GL}_n/(\mathrm{GL}_p\times\mathrm{GL}_q)\), \((p,q)\ne(1,1)\): SH holds; FN known only under (A) in char 0. To exclude "SH holds, FN fails" over \(\mathbb F_q(\!(t)\!)\): prove \(K\backslash X(F)\cong\Lambda_S^+\) (pairs of complementary subspaces versus a lattice) and apply Corollary C with the support bound of A1-4 step 1 (coverage holds, so no cancellation is needed). Gap: the orbit classification over \(F\) is not on the pages.
  4. Spheres with \(q\) even and \(\mathrm{SL}_2/\mathrm{SO}_2\) in residue characteristic 2: outside Chen–Yi's \(p\ne2\); no sheaf statement to compare.
  5. Betti versus ℓ-adic: every sheaf verdict above is ℓ-adic; the Betti \(\mathcal C\) of the pages inherits it through the comparison of decomposition multiplicities (open item 1). A divergence between Betti and ℓ-adic sheaf statements would be a divergence inside the sheaf level, not between the levels.

Blocked route (recorded): the function-level parity obstruction for \(\mathrm{SL}_2/T\) (\(\mathbb C[y^2]\subsetneq\mathbb C[y]\)) does not lift to a sheaf-level obstruction, because thick spans contain retracts and \(\mathrm{IC}_0\) is a summand of the "odd" object \(V_{(1,0)}\ast\mathrm{IC}_0\) (A1-2 step 4); whether the odd \(\mathrm{IC}_{(2j+1)\alpha^\vee}\) are Satake summands for \(\mathrm{SL}_2/\mathrm{SO}_2\) stays open and would need Chen–Yi's relative Kostka–Foulkes multiplicities or [CN24, Cor. 13.8] with the Hecke action identified as restriction along \(\check G_X\to\check G\).
