Correction X1.1 · GL₄/Sp₄: every T_λ nonzero on the orbit (1,1,1,1), exact values, step 2 corrected

proved correction ★ key step

Correction. Corrects Proposition 1.4 · \(\GL_4/\Sp_4\): (SG) holds, and the uncovered label is reached by a cancellation.

For \(\mathrm{GL}_4/\mathrm{Sp}_4\) over any non-archimedean \(F\), \(T_\lambda\ast\varphi_0\) is nonzero on \(\mathcal O_{(1,1,1,1)}\) exactly for \(\lambda=(1+a,1+b,-b,-a)\), \(a\ge b\ge0\), with values given by a \(\mathrm{GSp}_4\) coset count; \((1,1,0,0)\) is the only such \(\lambda\) with \(\varphi(\lambda)=(2,2,0,0)\), so \(c'=1\), \(c=q(q+1)\) and the cancellation of Proposition 1.4 and its conclusion stand.

Correction X1.1.

Let \(X=\mathrm{GL}_4/\mathrm{Sp}_4\) (nondegenerate alternating forms, \(g\cdot\omega=g\omega g^{\mathsf T}\), \(x_0=J=J_2\oplus J_2\)) over any non-archimedean local field \(F\) with residue field \(\mathbb F_q\) (any characteristic, any \(q\)); \(K=\mathrm{GL}_4(\mathcal O)\), \(\operatorname{vol}K=1\). Put \(\mu=(1,1,1,1)\), so \(\mathcal O_\mu=K\cdot\varpi J\), and \(J''=\varpi^2J_{12}+J_{34}\in\mathcal O_{(2,2,0,0)}\).

  1. Labels. In the component \(\operatorname{val}\operatorname{Pf}=2\), \(\nu\ge\mu\) iff \(\nu=\nu_k:=(1+k,1+k,1-k,1-k)\), \(k\ge0\). The lower set of \(\nu_1=(2,2,0,0)\) is \(\{\nu_1,\mu\}\); the lower set of \(\mu\) is \(\{\mu\}\).
  2. Support and values on \(\mathcal O_\mu\). For \(\lambda\in\Lambda_T^+\), \((T_\lambda\ast\varphi_0)(\varpi J)\ne0\) iff \(\lambda=(1+a,\,1+b,\,-b,\,-a)\) with \(a\ge b\ge0\), and then
$$(T_\lambda\ast\varphi_0)(\varpi J)=\begin{cases}q^{6a}(q+1)(q^2+1),&a=b,\\ q^{4a+2b-1}(q+1)^2(q^2+1),&a>b.\end{cases}$$

For these \(\lambda\), \(\varphi(\lambda)=\nu_{a+b+1}\); so \((1,1,0,0)\) is the only one with \(\varphi(\lambda)=(2,2,0,0)\), and \((2,0,0,0)\) is not among them.

  1. The cancellation. \(T_{(1,1,0,0)}\ast\varphi_0=\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_{(2,2,0,0)}}+(q+1)(q^2+1)\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_\mu}\) and \(T_{(2,0,0,0)}\ast\varphi_0=q(q+1)\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_{(2,2,0,0)}}\); so in Proposition 1.4 \(c'=1\), \(c=q(q+1)\), and
$$\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_\mu}=\frac1{(q+1)(q^2+1)}\Big(T_{(1,1,0,0)}-\frac1{q(q+1)}T_{(2,0,0,0)}\Big)\ast\varphi_0 .$$
  1. Corrected step 2 of Proposition 1.4 (text in step 7 of the argument), and (SG) for \(\mathrm{GL}_4/\mathrm{Sp}_4\) over every non-archimedean \(F\), with no hypothesis (A)“Under (A)”: assuming all of Sakellaridis's assumptions (A1)–(A5) for X at the given p-adic place, so that his Theorem 8.0.2 applies.: the conclusion of Proposition 1.4 holds.
  1. Lattice form of Lemma A. With \(\operatorname{vol}K=1\), \((T_\lambda\ast\varphi_0)(x)=\#\{gK\subseteq Kt^\lambda K:\ g^{-1}\cdot x\in X(\mathcal O)\}\). Now \(g^{-1}\cdot x=g^{-1}xg^{-\mathsf T}\) is unimodular iff \(x\) is unimodular on \(M:=g^{-\mathsf T}\mathcal O^4\), and \(g\mapsto g^{-\mathsf T}\) maps \(Kt^\lambda K\) onto \(Kt^{-w_0\lambda}K\). Writing \(\operatorname{inv}(\mathcal O^4,h\mathcal O^4)=c\) for \(h\in Kt^cK\) (\(c\) dominant),
$$(T_\lambda\ast\varphi_0)(x)=\#\{M:\ \operatorname{inv}(\mathcal O^4,M)=-w_0\lambda,\ x\text{ unimodular on }M\}.$$
  1. Labels (statement 1). Comparable labels differ by a coroot-lattice vector, so have the same \(\operatorname{val}\operatorname{Pf}=b_1+b_2\). For \(\nu=(b,b,2-b,2-b)\), \(\nu-\mu=(b-1)(1,1,-1,-1)\) has partial sums \((b-1)(1,2,1,0)\), nonnegative iff \(b\ge1\); \(\nu_1-\nu\ge0\) iff \(b\le2\); dominance of \(\nu\) gives \(b\ge1\). This is the argument of Correction 10.3, step 1, checked line by line.
  1. Support (statement 2, first half). \(\varpi J\) is unimodular on \(M\) iff \(\{v:\varpi J(v,M)\subseteq\mathcal O\}=M\), i.e. \(M^\vee=\varpi M\) for the \(J\)-dual \(M^\vee\). If \(M=h\mathcal O^4\) has invariant \(c\), then \(M^\vee=J^{-\mathsf T}h^{-\mathsf T}\mathcal O^4\) (\(J\in K\)) has invariant \(-w_0c\) and \(\varpi M\) has invariant \(c+(1,1,1,1)\). So \(c_4=-1-c_1\), \(c_3=-1-c_2\), and \(c_2\ge c_3\) forces \(c_2\ge0\): \(c=(a,b,-1-b,-1-a)\), \(a\ge b\ge0\). Conversely, in a symplectic basis \(e_1,f_1,e_2,f_2\) of \(\mathcal O^4\), the lattice \(\varpi^a\mathcal Oe_1\oplus\varpi^{-1-a}\mathcal Of_1\oplus\varpi^b\mathcal Oe_2\oplus\varpi^{-1-b}\mathcal Of_2\) satisfies \(M^\vee=\varpi M\) and has invariant \(c\). By step 1 the value is nonzero iff \(-w_0\lambda=c\), i.e. \(\lambda=(1+a,1+b,-b,-a)\). For \(\lambda=(2,0,0,0)\) one would need \(-a=0\) and \(1+a=2\): impossible. Finally \(\varphi(\lambda)=(\lambda_1+\lambda_2,\lambda_1+\lambda_2,\lambda_3+\lambda_4,\lambda_3+\lambda_4)=\nu_{a+b+1}\).
  1. Exact values (statement 2, second half). \(M^\vee=\varpi M\) iff \(\varpi J\) admits a symplectic \(\mathcal O\)-basis of \(M\), iff \(M=h\mathcal O^4\) with \(h^{\mathsf T}Jh=\varpi^{-1}J\), i.e. \(h\in\mathrm{GSp}_4(F)\) with multiplier \(\eta(h)=\varpi^{-1}\); \(M\) determines \(h\) up to \(\mathrm{Sp}_4(\mathcal O)\) on the right. Since \(\eta:\mathrm{GSp}_4(\mathcal O)\to\mathcal O^\times\) is onto, \(h\,\mathrm{Sp}_4(\mathcal O)\mapsto h\,\mathrm{GSp}_4(\mathcal O)\) is a bijection onto the cosets with \(\operatorname{val}\eta=-1\). The \(\mathrm{GSp}_4\)-Cartan representative of such a coset is \(t^c\), \(c=(a,b,-1-b,-1-a)\), \(a\ge b\ge0\), in the basis \((e_1,e_2,f_2,f_1)\), and \(c\) is also the \(\mathrm{GL}_4\)-invariant of \(M\) (the multiset \(\{a,b,-1-b,-1-a\}\) determines \(a\ge b\ge0\)). Macdonald's coset count for the split group \(\mathrm{GSp}_4\) with hyperspecial \(K'=\mathrm{GSp}_4(\mathcal O)\), \(|K't^cK'/K'|=q^{\langle2\rho,c\rangle}W(q^{-1})/W_c(q^{-1})\), applies: the positive roots take the values \(a-b,\ a+b+1,\ 2a+1,\ 2b+1\) on \(c\), so \(\langle2\rho,c\rangle=4a+2b+3\); \(W(t)=(1+t)(1+t+t^2+t^3)\); \(W_c=\{1,s_{e_1-e_2}\}\) if \(a=b\) and \(W_c=1\) if \(a>b\). This gives the displayed values; \(a=b=0\) is the Lagrangian count \((q+1)(q^2+1)\) of Proposition 1.4.
  1. Values at \(J''\) and the expansions (statement 3). On a lattice \(M\supseteq\mathcal O^4\) of index \(q^2\), \(J''\) is unimodular iff integral (Pfaffian). \(\lambda=(1,1,0,0)\): \(M=\mathcal O^4+\varpi^{-1}\widetilde W\), \(W\in\mathrm{Gr}(2,\mathbb F_q^4)\); integrality of \(J''(\varpi^{-1}w,\mathcal O^4)\) forces \(W=\langle\bar e_1,\bar f_1\rangle\), which works: value \(1\). \(\lambda=(2,0,0,0)\): \(M=\mathcal O^4+\mathcal O\varpi^{-2}v\), \(v\) primitive; integrality forces the \((e_2,f_2)\)-coordinates of \(v\) into \(\varpi^2\mathcal O\): value \(|\mathbb P^1(\mathcal O/\varpi^2)|=q(q+1)\) (as in Computation 5.5, step 2). The support bound of Proposition 1.4, step 1 (true for every \(F\): it uses only the Cartan decomposition and the inclusion \(Kt^\alpha K\cdot Kt^\beta K\subseteq\bigcup_{\gamma\le\alpha+\beta}Kt^\gamma K\)) puts both functions on the lower set \(\{\nu_1,\mu\}\) of step 2; with step 3 this gives the two expansions and the formula for \(\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_\mu}\).
  1. Machine check, by a method different from Correction 10.3's. All lattices \(M\subseteq t^{-L}\mathcal O^4\) over \(\mathbb F_q[\![t]\!]\) on which \(x\) is unimodular were enumerated in Hermite normal form, column by column, the conditions \(x(h_i,h_j)\in\mathcal O\) being solved as affine-linear systems over \(\mathbb F_q\); the invariant of each \(M\) was computed by a Smith reduction. At \(x=\varpi J\): for \(q=2\), \(L=3\), the invariants that occur are exactly \((a,b,-1-b,-1-a)\) with \(a\le2\), with counts \(15,360,960,5760,23040,61440\); for \(q=3\), \(L=2\), exactly those with \(a\le1\), with counts \(40,4320,29160\); each equals step 4's formula. At \(x=J''\): \(1\) and \(q(q+1)\) (\(=6,12\)) for \((1,1,0,0)\) and \((2,0,0,0)\), and \(q(q+1)\) also for \((1,1,1,-1)\), as in Audit 7.6.
  1. Corrected step 2 of Proposition 1.4. Replace its first two sentences by: "The labels \(\ge\mu\) with \(\operatorname{val}\operatorname{Pf}=2\) are \(\nu_k=(1+k,1+k,1-k,1-k)\), \(k\ge0\); the lower set of \((2,2,0,0)\) is \(\{(2,2,0,0),\mu\}\), and \(\mathcal O_\mu\) is closed. The dominant \(\lambda\) with \(T_\lambda\ast\varphi_0\ne0\) on \(\mathcal O_\mu\) are \((1+a,1+b,-b,-a)\), \(a\ge b\ge0\), with \(\varphi(\lambda)=\nu_{a+b+1}\); the only one with \(\varphi(\lambda)=(2,2,0,0)\) is \((1,1,0,0)\). We use it together with \(T_{(2,0,0,0)}\), which also has \(\varphi=(2,2,0,0)\) and vanishes on \(\mathcal O_\mu\)." The two lattice counts at \(\varpi J\) and the expansions are then as stated there, with \(c'=1\), \(c=q(q+1)\). In step 1 replace "Corollary C gives \(\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_\mu}\in\mathcal H_K\varphi_0\) for every covered \(\mu\)" by "for every covered \(\nu\), \(f_\nu=T_\lambda\) satisfies the hypothesis of Proposition B": Corollary C requires every label to have a dominant lift, which fails here.
  1. (SG). Order the labels by dominance; lower sets are finite, since comparable labels share \(s=b_1+b_2\) and then \(s/2\le b_1'\le b_1\). For a covered \(\nu=\varphi(\lambda)\), \(f_\nu=T_\lambda\): support in \(\{\nu'\le\nu\}\) by the support bound, value \(\ge1\) at \(t^\lambda x_0\in\mathcal O_\nu\) (Lemma A(2)). For \(\nu=(2k+1)(1,1,1,1)\), \(f_\nu=\mathbf 1_{\varpi^kK}\ast f_\mu\) with \(f_\mu\) of statement 3, which gives \(\mathbf 1_{\mathcal O_\nu}\) because \(\varpi^kI\cdot\omega=\varpi^{2k}\omega\). Proposition B gives (SG). All counts are of configurations over \(\mathcal O/\varpi^n\) and depend only on \(q\); \(X(F)\) is one \(G(F)\)-orbit for every \(F\). So (SG) holds over every non-archimedean \(F\): the conclusion of Proposition 1.4, and Correction 10.3, are confirmed; Correction 10.3 is extended by the exact values of statement 2.
